About us
Rubatuba is an accordion-tuba multicultural folk duo based on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. We have been performing together for over twelve years. We perform a variety of music styles with their origins connected Klesmer/Balkan, Gypsy, French, Italian, Celtic, Latin. Our music performance is lively and visual and has been described as ‘Happy Music.’ We perform as roving entertainment (musos), as well as on stage.
Over these last several years, we have performed at different festivals, including the Caboolture, Gold Coast, Festuri, Toowoomba and Bundaberg, Morton Bay Multicultural Festivals, Redland Spring Festival, the Maleny Music and Real Food Festivals and the Maleny Wood Expo, Maleny Show, Toowoomba Garden Fest and the Carnival of Flowers. Besides festivals, we play (and have played) with Brisbane City Sounds, at various markets, including Montville Produce, Caloundra Twilight and Street Market, Cotton Tree Market, Crystal Waters Markets, Eumundi Markets and other special events.
Our music background:
Françoise Smith is a classically trained pianist. She performs with Rubatuba .
Steven John has a Liberal Arts Degree in music performance (USA), has played in symphony and theatre orchestras in Germany and presently performs with Françoise as Rubatuba duo.
RUBATUBA
We perform at restaurants, weddings, openings, markets, festivals and other events. We typically perform 30 min to 1 hour sets, either mixed or each set with a particular flavour, such as: French, Celtic, Balkan/Gypsy and European.
